Tablo Success Story – By Tom, the Dish Ditcher

TOM DISH DITCHER

Is Tablo right for you? You’ve heard the buzz and read the expert reviews, but sometimes it helps to hear the Tablo Success Story from real Tablo customers to know if this is the right solution for you.

Our latest blog series, “How I Cut the Cord with Tablo” features Q&A style interviews with our Tablo OTA DVR customers, focusing on how they’ve cut the cord on cable to save money while enjoying a whole-home DVR experience using Tablo.

Whether you’re still on the fence about cutting the cord or you’re just looking for tips and tricks on how to improve your cord-cutting setup, we hope you’ll find these cord-cutting success stories helpful.

Why did you cut the cord? How much money are you saving each month?

One day it dawned on me that the only TV I watched through my cable provider were channels that I could get free with an Over-The-Air (OTA) HDTV antenna. I was paying $98 a month for Dish Network and realized that as much as it pleased me to just pay money for something I didn’t use (haha), I was done with pay TV.

What do you get with an HDTV antenna that you couldn’t get another way?

Free high-definition TV! I honestly had no idea accessing free HD channels was as easy as plugging an antenna into a TV, or in my case the Tablo unit.

Why did you choose the Tablo OTA DVR as part of your home entertainment arsenal?

I have two toddlers at my house. Any parent can tell you that trying to watch a live show with toddlers is almost impossible. You almost always miss a large portion of the show. In the event of a disruption or distraction I wanted to be able to pause or record live TV and come back to it later. I looked at numerous DVR systems but Tablo stood out to me as it offers the ability to watch on multiple TVs within the home via a Roku, Amazon Fire Stick and the most recent edition of Apple TV.

What’s been the best thing about using/having Tablo so far?

The best thing about Tablo for me is being able to watch television on multiple TVs but only having to purchase one DVR unit and one antenna. Plus, this is all done with no monthly bill or subscription required (although I have purchased a lifetime subscription to be able to access Tablo’s advanced features).

Tom Dish Ditching Cordcutter TabloWhat other services and tools do you use to watch TV/Video content and why?

I have 3 TVs in my house. Two of the TVs have Roku sticks and the other an Amazon Fire stick. Both devices run the Tablo app providing access to Tablo’s live TV stream and recorded content as well as streaming services from Netflix and Amazon Prime. Connected to my Tablo, I have a 1 TB Western Digital external hard drive which holds approximately 250 hours of HD programming.

What advice do you have for others thinking of cutting the cord?|

Don’t wait! Every day you waste you’re losing money. I was a subscriber to Dish for the last 8 years and spent around $9,000 when I could have just invested a small amount in Tablo to watch and record the same TV shows for free. I’ve researched a lot of other DVR systems and Tablo stands out way above the rest. The ability to only use one DVR, one antenna and create a wireless whole-home setup cannot be done with any other DVR system.

If you’re already enjoying your Tablo OTA DVR, remember to post a review of your DVR on Amazon and let your fellow cord-cutters know how Tablo works for you.
