Happy New Year everyone! Now that 2017 is finally here, it’s time to gear up for the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES). CES is the tradeshow where the world’s largest electronics manufacturers unveil the cool new toys they’ve been working on over the past year. As usual, the Tablo HQ team will be in Las Vegas showing off the latest in Tablo software, such as Tablo Droid and hardware, Tablo Live.

Tablo DROID Android-Based Software DVR:
If you’ve ever wished for a Tablo DVR that connected to your TV via HDMI, tuned live channels instantly or had 5.1 surround sound, then you’ll be super excited for Tablo DROID. A software-based DVR engine, Tablo DROID brings the user-friendly Tablo interface to powerful Android TV set-top-boxes starting with the Nvidia Shield.
By connecting a USB OTA tuner and an antenna to the Nvidia Shield and downloading the Tablo DROID DVR app, you’ll be able to discover, watch and record live TV on your Android set-top-box without the need for Tablo OTA DVR hardware.
Recordings get saved to the Nvidia Shield’s internal storage or to a separate USB-connected drive if you need additional storage space. As for tuner compatibility, Tablo DROID will work with our own 2-Tuner USB dongle called Tablo TUNER.
Tablo DROID will be free to download from the Google Play store and will include a free 30-day trial of Tablo’s guide data subscription. Once those 30 days are up, you can still watch live TV and set manual recordings or for just $3.99/month you can get a full 14 days of guide data and one-click recording functions.
ETA for Tablo DROID and Tablo TUNER is Q2 of 2017.
Tablo LIVE ‘Antenna Anywhere’ Stick:
Free Over-the-Air TV is pretty awesome, but connecting an antenna directly to your TV often doesn’t result in the best experience.
Maybe your TV isn’t located where OTA reception is good (like the basement), or to connect the antenna to the TV you need to run a cable across the middle of the living room (hello tripping hazard!) or you wind up really missing having an on-screen TV guide.
That’s why we’ve been working on Tablo LIVE, our single-tuner WiFi connected ‘antenna anywhere’ stick.
Tablo LIVE makes ANY OTA antenna smart! It lets you place your antenna anywhere in your home to ensure the best possible OTA reception and lets you watch live TV wirelessly via Tablo apps on streaming set-top-boxes and mobile devices like laptops, smartphones and tablets.
Apps for Tablo LIVE will have a user-friendly interface that lets you browse an on-screen 24 hour grid guide with episode and series details as well as launch live broadcast TV streams. Tablo LIVE apps will be free to download and there’s no monthly fee for TV guide data.
ETA for the Tablo LIVE ‘antenna anywhere’ stick is Q2 2017. MSRP will be approximately $99 USD.
Tablo CLOUD DVR Storage:
We’re also working on a proof-of-concept for Tablo CLOUD DVR storage. Designed to be used with the Tablo LIVE ‘antenna anywhere’ stick to add online recording storage and DVR functionality, Tablo CLOUD will be subscription-based and offer a set number of hours of cloud DVR storage for a monthly fee. (Sorry, you won’t be able to use Tablo CLOUD with existing Tablo DVRs.)
Pricing, plans and availability will be announced at launch.
As you can see, things are shaping up to be a very exciting 2017 with these and other Tablo announcements yet to come. Stay tuned!
