Q&A > How Would You Watch and Control Tablo in Another Room?

Tablo Router Smart TV

Send us your most pressing TV viewing questions via email so we can answer them in an upcoming issue.

This week's questions are follow-ups from Steven and Mona to last week's Q&A. They ask, "How would I control the Tablo DVR from another room? How would you get channels on a TV not connected to the Tablo?"

As we explained last week, whole-home DVRs like Tablo take the incoming signals from your TV antenna and stream them over your home network to any compatible internet-connected device. Let's say your TV antenna is connected to your Tablo in an upstairs bedroom. The room next door is your office where your Wi-Fi router is located. Downstairs you have a Roku-enabled Smart TV.

Your Tablo will connect to your router via Wi-Fi and so will your Roku-enabled Smart TV. Using the Roku Smart TV's remote, you download the Tablo app to the television. The app on the Smart TV connects to your Tablo over Wi-Fi so you can stream live and recorded programs and control the DVR using the Roku remote. Have another TV in the basement with a Fire TV stick? The same process applies. Need a diagram? Check this out.

This unique setup allows a single Tablo DVR connected to a single TV antenna to show the same channel lineup on every TV you have, using the remote control of the Smart TV or streaming device you're watching on, in any room of your home.
