Today’s question comes from Don who asks, “Why didn’t my 4th generation Tablo come with a remote control? Can I buy one for it?”
The 4th generation Tablo is a bit of a unique television viewing device in that it doesn’t connect directly to your television via HDMI.
Instead, it connects to your home network via Ethernet or Wi-Fi and streams live and recorded programming to Tablo apps on compatible smart TVs and streaming devices.
That means instead of the Tablo having its own remote control, you’ll use the familiar remote control that came with your smart TV or streaming device to download the Tablo app and then control your DVR wirelessly.
So, if you have a Roku smart TV, you’ll use the remote control that came with your Roku television to control the Tablo. If you have an Amazon Fire TV stick, you’ll use the remote control that came with your Fire TV streaming device.
That means you don’t need to use your smartphone or tablet to control your Tablo (at least after setup is complete), or to purchase a separate universal remote.
