Roku Launches New Streaming Media Players

This week Roku launched a brand new lineup of products this week starting at a very affordable $30. The folks at TechHive have a good overview that includes a chart comparing the features of each version.

The lower-end models benefit from faster processors while support for 4K streaming has been added to those on the higher end. If you're due for an upgrade or are looking for a new device to use with your Tablo, there should be a new Roku streamer to fit your needs and budget.

Roku has even updated their website to help you compare the new Roku lineup to their primary competitors. Cool move!

The new lineup is available for pre-order from your favorite electronics retailer and are set to start shipping October 7th.

Not to be outdone by their competitor, Amazon launched an updated Fire TV stick this week as well. According to Variety, the stick is faster than its predecessor and includes a voice-enabled remote.

The $40 device starts shipping October 20th and comes with some pretty cool activation perks. If you're finding your old Amazon Fire TV stick to be a bit sluggish, it could be well worth the upgrade.

Cord Cutting = Potential $1 Billion Loss for Cable Companies

Another 800K households are expected to cut the cord in 2017, leading to $1 Billion in losses for the cable industry, says Business Insider. Not surprising when the same study showed the average consumer saves $104 per month by cutting the cord.

If you still haven't cut the cord and are curious about your potential savings, we've got a Cord Cutting Calculator for that.
