NEWS: TV Renewals, Cancellations, and Pick-Ups
big bang theory

This week the major Over-the-Air networks are unveiled their plans for the 2019-2020 fall TV season.

Huge shows like The Big Bang Theory are ending their runs. Under-performing shows like Lethal Weapon have already been axed, with several others like A.P. Bio waiting on a decision.

That means there's a lot of room for new series!

Some promising new pickups are:
  • Immigration comedy Sunnyside starring Kal Pen (Harold & Kumar) and produced by Mike Schurr (The Office)
  • Medical sitcom Carol's Second Act starring Patricia Heaton (Everybody Loves Raymond)
  • Drama 'Stumptown' starring Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother)
  • Animated comedy The Great North from the team behind Bob's Burgers, and voice work from SNL and Parks & Recreation alums
  • Drama (and Riverdale spinoff) Katy Keene starring Lucy Hale (Pretty Little Liars)
In other positive news given how fickle network executives can be, some of your favorites like Grey's Anatomy and This Is Us were given multi-year deals.

See the full list of renewals, cancellations, and pickups here.

CANADIAN CORNER: Apple Channels Comes to Canada (Sort Of)
apple tv channels aaron reynolds

As we mentioned above, Apple has added a way to subscribe to streaming channels directly from its revamped TV App in over 100 countries around the world including Canada.

In the US, customers can choose from 15 different channels including HBO, Showtime, and Starz.

Here, the selection is somewhat... leaner, as pointed out by content creator and TV aficionado Aaron Reynolds.

Hopefully, Apple can work on bringing streaming services like Crave, TSN, SportsNet, and more into the fold going forward.
