NEWS: Broadcasters Getting Creative to Build Fall TV Schedules

tsunami

The first part of the year is when broadcasters make decisions on which new shows get made into series for the fall TV season. But with Hollywood shut down for the majority of 'pilot season', networks are having to get creative to fill their schedules

One key tactic: acquiring series that have already run in other countries like the Canadian medical drama Transplant which will air on NBC after debuting last year on the CTV network.

Another Canadian drama, Coroner, has been acquired by the CW. The show will help fill a large void as the network pushed all of its planned fall slate into January, with the exception of Supernatural which still needs to film its final two episodes.

Given how well other Canadian shows — such as Schitt's Creek and Letterkenny — have been received by U.S. audiences, perhaps more shows will get snapped up for rebroadcast over the coming weeks.

For a look at what other broadcast series have been renewed, canceled, or are ending, check out this list from The Wrap

Q&A: Why Do I Keep Losing This Antenna TV Channel at Night?

Send us your most pressing cord cutting questions via email so we can answer them in an upcoming issue.

This week's question comes from Sandy who says, "One channel that I get with my TV antenna comes in great during the day, but gets spotty at night. Is there a reason?"

If one of your Over-the-Air TV channels has excellent reception during the day, but you see video dropouts or even total loss of signal in the evenings, the source of the problem may be your light bulbs.

As Tyler the Antenna Man explains in this video, LED light bulbs are a fairly common source of interference for Over-the-Air TV signals, especially those on the VHF frequency.

The easiest way to test if your light bulbs are causing issues is to turn all your lights off the next time you notice your signal dropping out in the evening. If the signal automatically improves, then you may want to make a trip to the hardware store for replacements.

Look for newer and better quality LED bulbs. These should have better shielding against RF interference and list certifications from the FCC or other government bodies on the packaging.
