Today’s question comes from Carlos who asks, “Should I buy the Tablo with the antenna included or is it better to buy a separate TV antenna?”
In case you didn’t know, both the 2-tuner and 4-tuner Tablo whole-home DVRs can be purchased as standalone devices, or in a Tablo Total System package which includes a 35-mile TV antenna.
The indoor TV antenna that comes with the Tablo Total System is ideal for folks who live approximately 35 miles or less from their local broadcast TV towers.
(You can check out a map of your area’s broadcast towers here.)
Keep in mind that obstructions like trees, buildings and hills between you and your local towers, can reduce a TV antenna’s range.
If you live further away, in the suburbs or country, you will need to purchase a larger, more powerful indoor or perhaps even outdoor antenna to connect to your Tablo. This will help ensure your DVR receives a strong and consistent signal from the broadcast towers.
In that case, or if you already have a TV antenna that works well in your location, you can save a few dollars and purchase the standalone Tablo DVR.
