Today’s question comes from Russell, who says, “I like to have live TV playing in the background all day, but I find the Tablo app on my Roku exits and stops playing after a few hours. Is there a way to keep it playing continuously?”
Many folks enjoy having the TV on to keep pets company while they’re out, when they’re falling asleep at night, or just as general background noise as they go about their day.
However, some platforms, like Roku, have built-in tools that prevent apps from streaming continuously without input from the remote. It’s their equivalent of Netflix’s ‘are you still watching’ prompt.
While these settings were intended to help consumers avoid going over their internet service provider’s bandwidth cap, they can be annoying. This is especially so for those with unlimited plans and/or who primarily stream antenna TV via Tablo, which doesn’t use your external internet connection.
Thankfully, you can disable this setting, called ‘bandwidth saver’, on your Roku devices and Roku-enabled smart TVs.
From your Roku’s home screen, go to SETTINGS > NETWORK > BANDWITH SAVER and set the toggle to OFF.
Now, instead of shutting off and returning to your Roku’s home screen every 4 hours, the Tablo app will continue streaming even if your Roku doesn’t detect any button presses.
