Today’s question comes from Kelly who asks, “How can I confirm if my TV will be compatible with Tablo? Is there an easy way to check before I buy?”
Most smart TVs and streaming devices are compatible with Tablo over-the-air DVRs. Beyond reviewing the list of Tablo-compatible devices at TabloTV.com, the easiest way to confirm if your television will work with Tablo is to look for the Tablo app.
The app won’t come preinstalled like Netflix or Prime Video, so you’ll need to search ‘TABLO’ in your television’s app store to find it.
When you search for the Tablo app on your smart TV, you’ll see one of these results:
- If TWO different Tablo apps show up, that means your television supports both the newer 4th Generation Tablo and the older legacy Tablo devices.
- If only ONE Tablo app shows up, it means that your television supports either the newer 4th Generation Tablo or the older legacy Tablo devices.
- If NO Tablo app shows up, that means your smart TV doesn’t have built-in support for Tablo. BUT don’t worry, there is a workaround. More on that later.
How Do I Tell Which Tablo App is Which?
It’s important to make sure that you’re looking for the Tablo app that matches your Tablo device model. The Tablo app with the dark blue Tablo logo works with newer 4th Generation Tablo devices. The Tablo app with the light blue and orange logo only works with older legacy Tablo devices.
What Can I Do If There’s No Tablo App?
Vizio smart TVs and some older Samsung and LG models may not have a Tablo app available in their app stores.
If nothing comes up when you search for the Tablo app on your television, an easy and affordable workaround is purchasing any compatible streaming stick or box and connecting it to your television’s HDMI port.
For as little as $20 and a few minutes of setup, a Roku, Amazon Fire TV or Android TV streaming device will make your TV compatible with many apps including Tablo and improve your overall streaming TV experience.
