Happy Friday Cord Cutters!

This will be our last newsletter before the New Year so we'd like to thank you for your support in 2016 and send best wishes to you and yours for the holiday season.

Cord Cutting This Week will return to your inboxes on Friday January 6th with updates on all of the neat new cord cutting gadgets and services announced at the annual Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, including what Tablo has on tap!

But for today, we're talking about last minute cord cutter gifts, holiday TV, Apple's TV app, and much more...

Let's get to it!

Apple TV's new TV App Not Designed for Cordcutters

Our friends at TechHive took a look at the newly launched TV app for Apple TV which was intended to amalgamate all of your favorite video sources into a single screen. Unfortunately with major players like Netflix and Amazon missing from the party, the need to use a cable provider login even for apps that don't require them, and app developers like Tablo locked out, it's definitely not cord cutter-friendly.

Still a Comcast Customer? Expect to Pay Even More Fees...

If you're still paying Comcast for cable, expect to start paying even more in 'digital adapter' fees once 2017 hits. Jumping from just $3.49 to $5.49 a month, this fee hike means that if you have three TVs in your house you will pay an extra $16.47 a month on top of your package price, other fees and taxes.

Just one more reason to choose cutting the cord on cable as your New Year's resolution!

2nd Generation Amazon Fire TVs Get a New Interface

Newer Amazon Fire TV boxes and sticks are getting an interface makeover. As our friends at Variety report, the new interface is much more Netflix-style and offers more options for user customization. Older Fire TV models will get the upgrade in the coming months.

Last Minute Cord Cutter Gifts

Canadian Corner: Amazon Prime Video Finally Available in Canada

Amazon bundles the streaming service with their Prime shipping service for $79/year. Just like Netflix, Amazon produces its own content including the critically acclaimed Transparent as well as streaming movies and TV shows from other networks.
