Q&A > How Do I Re-Scan When My Local TV Station Changes Signals?

Send us your most pressing cord cutting questions via email so we can answer them in an upcoming issue.

This week's question comes from Rick who says, "One of my local TV stations 'redesigned' their tower to a digital format. How do I re-scan the antenna signal for it?"

Rick's local station is WLUK in Green Bay, Wisconsin. While the conversion to digital TV actually happened back in the late 2000s, WLUK has recently switched from a VHF to a UHF broadcast frequency.

UHF signals are more easily received by smaller indoor TV antennas. By switching to a UHF frequency, more folks in the Green Bay area will be able to catch Packers football games Over-the-Air this fall.

When your local TV station makes a change like this, adds a new OTA subchannel, or re-arranges their current ATSC 1.0 broadcasts to enable new ATSC 3.0 channels, you'll need to run and save a new channel scan on your television and/or DVR to continue watching.

The channel scan option is usually found in the device's settings, but if you're not able to locate it, try Googling the TV or DVR model number and 'antenna scan' or 'channel scan' for instructions.
