Q&A > Do I Have to Hardwire My Antenna to All My TVs?

coaxial cable

Send us your most pressing cord cutting questions via email so we can answer them in an upcoming issue.

This week's question comes from Stephen who says, "I would like to install an OTA antenna. Is it necessary to hardwire it to all of my TVs? I currently have 4 televisions that are connected to my Wi-Fi, each with a Roku."

Once upon a time, the only way to get an Over-the-Air signal from an antenna to your television was by plugging the coaxial cable directly into the back of the TV. Thankfully, through the magic of technology, there are now more elegant alternatives that don't involve running coaxial cabling through your whole house.

Since Stephen is already invested in the Roku ecosystem, his best option is to pick up a Tablo Over-the-Air DVR. By connecting his antenna to a Tablo and the Tablo to his home's Wi-Fi router, he can wirelessly stream both live and recorded antenna TV to Rokus on each of his TVs, as well as other devices.

While there are other networked antenna DVRs on the market, the others either don't support Roku at all or don't do it well.
