Q&A > Why Does My Cordless Phone Interfere with Streaming?

Cordless Phone

Send us your most pressing cord cutting questions via email so we can answer them in an upcoming issue.

This week's question comes from Rich who asks, "Why do our Tablo DVR and other streaming TV services seem to cut out when our cordless phone rings or when you're talking on it?"

Along with baby monitors and garage door openers, cordless phones are a common source of interference for WiFi-enabled gadgets that are connected to the commonly used 2.4Ghz frequency.

If your cordless phone's base station is parked next to your WiFi router or other cord cutting gear, move it further away.

You can also reduce potential interference by connecting your Tablo DVR and other streaming devices to the 5Ghz WiFi band, as long as they're not too far away from your WiFi router.

Have a question about cord cutting that you'd like answered? Send us a note and you may see your question in an upcoming issue of Cord Cutting This Week!

CANADIAN CORNER > Apple Offering Credits to Apple TV+ Subscribers

Apple TV+

Select Canadian Apple TV+ subscribers are getting free Apple ID credits, simply for subscribing to the service.

This seems part of an overall strategy to keep an audience for the fledgling streamer, although its unclear how long Apple can keep making premium content and giving it away since more than half of its subscribers aren't paying them.
