Today’s question comes from Doug who says, “I have a 4th Generation and legacy Tablo device. Now that I can access both through 4th Generation apps, how do I know which Tablo I’m connected to?”

The easiest way to tell your Tablo devices apart is to replace the device’s default name, which is ‘Tablo’, with something unique. We recommend taking this step before adding any new Tablo to your network or completing the Legacy Transition Steps if you have both generations of Tablo devices like Doug.

You can rename your Tablo by navigating to SETTINGS > ABOUT > EDIT TABLO NAME.

Once it has been changed, your Tablo’s new name will appear in the SETTINGS screen across all Tablo apps as well as on the My Status website.

For example, Doug could call his Tablo devices ‘Legacy’ and ‘4th Gen’ but you can choose names that work for your use case, like ‘His Tablo’ and ‘Her Tablo’ or ‘Living Room Tablo’ and ‘Family Room Tablo’.

How to Switch Between Tablo Devices

When you launch the Tablo app, it will automatically connect to the last device you accessed.

You can switch to a different Tablo device on your network by navigating to SETTINGS > ACCOUNT INFORMATION > SWITCH TABLO. The button will be labelled with the name of the Tablo you’re currently connected to.

Selecting SWITCH TABLO will take you to a secondary selection screen that will show you the names of all Tablo devices on your network. Having unique names makes it much clearer which Tablo is currently active and connected to your app and which other devices are available.

Even if you don’t have multiple Tablo devices, there are benefits to giving your DVR a name. For example, when you’re working with Tablo Support, they can look up details about your device based on its unique moniker instead of its serial number.
