Growing consumer frustration with the cost of traditional cable TV subscriptions and Internet bandwidth caps is creating an opportunity for Kanata-based Nuvyyo. Tablo is a product from Ottawa-based Nuvyyo.
The company emerged a few years ago with JetStreamHD, a device that allows users to remotely stream media files stored on a home network onto any iPad, no matter where they are in the world.
Now, armed with $4 million in financing from Celtic House Venture Partners, the company is back with a new product that adds a new layer to the original concept. Tablo plugs into an antenna and lets customers watch and record high-definition programming on their television or tablet – for free.
Working with several local suppliers and service providers, including Valydate, Design 1st, Lloyd Douglas Solutions and L-D Tool & Die, Nuvyyo is currently beta testing about 60 units across Canada and the United States. That’s all but wrapped up as the company prepares to start shipping its new product later this month.
CEO Grant Hall said the company has sent demo models to “most of the major retailers that would come to mind” and is in the process of signing up distribution deals. He added Nuvyyo will likely focus its initial efforts on online retail sales before branching out to traditional brick-and-mortar shops.
