An active  Tablo TV Guide Data Subscription  is required for users of Tablo Premium Service after the free 30-day trial.

Like Tablo TV Guide Data Subscriptions, Tablo Premium Service is tied to YOU, not a specific device.
This means you can change or upgrade to a new Tablo DVR and easily transfer your existing Premium Service subscription to your new device.

Tablo Premium Service subscriptions are billed monthly for monthly TV Guide Data subscribers. Annual TV Guide Data subscribers will be billed annually.

Tablo's Premium Service enables the Automatic Commercial Skip feature which makes it possible for your Tablo OTA DVR to play the majority of completed recordings without ads on Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Apple TV, iOS and Android mobile devices, and PC/MAC. This feature is also available on the interface of TV-Connected Tablo DVRs.

Once enabled, your Tablo DVR will upload a small portion of completed recordings to the Tablo Commercial Skip Server for processing. A hybrid of digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms and machine learning will examine the data and mark the sections containing commercials.

Depending on the recording quality and audio settings of your Tablo, this process will use between 100-200 MB/hour of recording in external internet bandwidth.
Those with upload speeds slower than 3 Mbps, or with very low datacaps should NOT enable this feature.

In order to be eligible for commercial skip processing, your Tablo DVR’s recordings must:

  • NOT be a manual recording
Manual recordings lack 'program type' details and therefore are ineligible
  • Be completed successfully
In-progress, failed, and incomplete recordings are ineligible.
  • Be created AFTER commercial skip has been enabled in your Tablo’s settings screen
  • Have completed Fast-Forward Preview processing successfully

Certain networks, program types, and shows are always ineligible for commercial skip processing including:

  • [NETWORK] PBS
  • [NETWORK] TVO
  • [PROGRAM TYPE] Manual Recording
  • [SHOW] Bonanza
  • [SHOW] Gilligans Island
  • [SHOW] Good Morning America

Details about why certain shows/networks are ineligible as well as a complete list of ineligible networks and programs can be found on the Tablo Knowledge Base.

NOTE - ATSC 3.0 recordings made on the Tablo ATSC 3.0 QUAD HDMI are also not eligible for Automatic Commercial Skip.

When Tablo's Automatic Commercial Skip detection is enabled, all recordings that have been processed will show a commercial skip message identifying either success or one of several error messages:

  • SUCCESS - Commercial skip is ready.
  • FILTERED - Program ineligible for Commercial Skip.
  • NETWORK - Commercial Skip upload failed.
  • UNSUITABLE - Recording does not meet criteria for Commercial Skip.
  • RECEPTION - Commercial Skip failed due to poor reception.
  • OTHER FAILURE - Commercial Skip detection failed.

Tablo Premium Service FAQs

No. Since Tablo Premium Service is an add-on, it will match the billing term of your existing TV Guide Data subscription. The only exception is lifetime TV Guide Data Service subscribers who will be billed annually.

If you're a monthly TV Guide Data subscriber, you will be billed monthly, on your current TV Guide Service billing date, so the first month's charge for Premium Service will be pro-rated.

If you're an annual subscriber, you will be billed immediately for the Premium Service add-on, pro-rated according to your current TV Guide Data billing date, then it will renew at the full amount on an annual basis going forward.

If you've got a Lifetime Tablo TV Guide Data subscription, you will be billed immediately for the full amount of the annual Premium Service add-on and it will renew on an annual basis going forward.

Yes. Automatic Commercial Skip processing is tied directly to your Tablo, so each DVR on your account that will be using Premium Service must have its own subscription.

No, you don't need to re-enable Automatic Commercial Skip after your Premium Service subscription lapses if you had previously enabled it on your Tablo. As soon as your Premium Service subscription is active, all newly created recordings will be uploaded to the commercial skip server for processing. Recordings created during the time your Premium Service subscription was inactive will not be eligible for processing.

However, please note that after August 23rd 2022 customers will not be able to re-subscribe to Premium Service once it has been cancelled.

Ensure your Tablo account zip/postal and credit card zip/postal match and/or that your bank does not automatically block international transactions.
