Yes! Unlike our network-connected OTA DVRs, TV-connected Tablo DVRs like the DUAL HDMI offer a more traditional set-top-box DVR setup which sends video directly to your television via an HDMI cable.

This lets you enjoy your favorite live or recorded HDTV content via Tablo’s included remote control and beautiful, easy-to-use interface without the need for a separate streaming device or app.

TV-connected Tablo DVRs offer a more traditional set-top-box DVR setup. They connect directly to your television while at the same time provide the powerful and yet easy-to-use DVR interface that Tablo customers know and love. TV-connected DVRs are designed for cord cutters who primarily watch programming on a single television.

On the other hand, network-connected Tablo DVRs don’t connect to your television at all. Instead they connect to your home’s WiFi router to distribute live and recorded TV to multiple internet-connected devices like Smart TVs, streaming boxes and sticks, smartphones, tablets, and computers.

While TV-connected Tablo DVRs are designed for cord cutters who primarily watch programming on a single television, Tablo DUAL HDMI does enable streaming to a limited selection of internet-connected devices within the home.

Depending on the quality of your home network, Tablo DUAL HDMI can stream to up to two compatible Smart TVs or streaming set-top-boxes at the same time.

It is not compatible with existing Tablo apps for computers, smartphones, tablets, Apple TV, or select Smart TVs.

Tablo DUAL HDMI OTA DVRs have no onboard storage. To record programs or watch more than one live channel at a time, you must connect a portable USB hard drive (USB 2.0 or 3.0) between 1TB and 8TB in size. For details and recommendations, visit the Setup & Networking page.

Yes. But to enjoy the full Tablo experience, a subscription to our optional TV Guide Data Service is recommended. Without a Tablo subscription, you can still watch live TV and set manual recordings by date/time/channel but series recordings, cover art, and other advanced features are only available with active subscriptions. Read more about using Tablo without a subscription on the Tablo Guide Data Service page.

Yes! Tablo DUAL HDMI supports passthrough of 5.1 Surround Sound as well as PCM (Pulse Code Modulation) digital audio.

No. Legal and technical reasons prevent Tablo from recording content from sources other than an Over-The-Air TV antenna. You can read more about this on the Tablo blog.

No. Tablo is designed to record and stream Over-The-Air (OTA) broadcast signals from ATSC TV antennas. We do not support recording from cable or satellite signals, cableCARDs, or clear/unencrypted cable (QAM).

Yes. You DO need internet access to use Tablo DUAL HDMI DVR. The device requires internet connectivity for setup, to download TV Guide Data, to perform overnight maintenance, and for periodic firmware updates. However, Tablo DUAL HDMI can still play back live TV and recordings during internet outages or in locations where internet access is limited.
