If you’re a cord cutter you know it can be difficult to get access to local channels via your streaming service (if you’re going with a streaming service at all). One of the best solutions is an over-the-air – or OTA antenna-, but that’s not going to do you much good for programs you’re not around to watch.
Enter Tablo, an Apple TV-compatible app that allows you to browse, record and stream live and recorded HDTV programs as if you still had that clunky cable box. Tablo provides a slick, easy-to-use interface that helps you quickly find the live shows you want to view via your OTA antenna and to set up future shows for recording.
And Wednesday, the Tablo Apple TV app got a significant upgrade. Per an announcement at the Tablo Community site, Tablo v1.6 for tvOS:
- Adds a guide screen and filters (All, Prime Time, Premiering, TV Shows, Movies, Sports)
- Adds a scheduled screen and filters (All, Coming Soon)
- Adds support for Surround Sound in the settings screen
- Adds the current time on a Live TV screen
Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound (AC3) audio was announced for Tablo hardware devices on July 26th, but is now supported on Apple TV as well. You’ll want a 4th generation Apple TV or Apple TV 4K to enable it. For more on Tablo’s Surround Sound support and to check out suggested settings, visit www.tablotv.com.
The other updates enhance the user experience, making it easier to find shows and schedule them to record.
