OK... now let's get to it!

Q&A > Can I Still Set Series Recordings Without the Guide on Tablo?
Manual Recording

Send us your most pressing cord cutting questions via email so we can answer them in an upcoming issue.

This week's question comes from Jackie who says, "If I don't subscribe to the guide can I still record with Tablo and if so can I set recordings for specific TV series?"

The ability to set manual recordings is built right into the Tablo DVR and doesn't require a TV Guide Data Service subscription. Manual recordings can be set as recurring and then by date/time/channel for your favorite TV series.

Let's say you wanted to record your local evening newscast every weekday at 6 p.m. You would choose to add a new recurring manual recording from the SCHEDULED screen and give it a name. Then you'd select the channel your local news airs on, Monday-Friday for days, the time the news airs, and even the number of airings to keep before they're automatically deleted. Then your Tablo will record that time slot, on that channel, every weekday until you tell it to stop.

However, unlike a one-touch series recording schedule available with an active TV Guide Data Service subscription, if your favorite series changes time slots, or airs an extra-long episode as some sitcoms and dramas do, they could be missed. You'll also need to adjust schedules for programs that go on hiatus and won't be able to avoid recording re-runs, which the DVR will do automatically with a subscription.

Have a question about cord cutting that you'd like answered? Send us a note and you may see your question in an upcoming issue of Cord Cutting This Week!
