Q&A > What's Behind This Recent Antenna Disruption?
cell tower

Send us your most pressing cord cutting questions via email so we can answer them in an upcoming issue.

This week's question comes from Dean who says, "I live in a Denver suburb and have always had good reception. But recently I’ve had a lot of pixelation, sound, and picture loss. The antenna is in the same location and has not been touched. Rescans don't help. What do you recommend?"

It can be super frustrating for things to go sideways when you've had years of excellent Over-the-Air TV reception.

If you've checked your antenna and cabling for damage or corrosion and rescanned as Dean has, the next thing to consider is a new obstruction or source of interference. Obstructions are obvious things like new buildings or your neighbor parking their RV directly in front of your antenna. Unfortunately, interference is invisible.

For example, in many suburban areas including Denver, new cell towers are being built which can interfere with Over-the-Air TV signals. Trying out an LTE filter — available online for around $25 – is a quick and easy way to determine whether signals from nearby cell towers are affecting your antenna setup.
