Q&A > How Can I Lock In This Weak Channel?

Send us your most pressing cord cutting questions via email so we can answer them in an upcoming issue.

This week's question comes from Sheila who says, "My local CW channel pixelates and sometimes doesn't even come in at all. What can I do to lock it in so it always comes in clear?"

It sounds like Sheila's local CW channel is on the edge of what's called 'the digital cliff'. With today's digital Over-the-Air TV signals, there's a very thin margin between a channel coming in just fine, pixelation and audio breakups, and a signal that's too weak to come in.

The good news is that small tweaks can make a big difference.

First, confirm the connection between your OTA antenna and your TV or DVR is secure and that your antenna hasn't moved or been damaged. Next, if you have an outdoor antenna, avoid signal leaks and sharing the signal between too many devices. How? Add terminators to any open coaxial endpoints and try using a DVR or network-connected tuner instead of physically connecting multiple TVs to a single antenna. Reducing the length of the coaxial cable between your antenna and your TV or DVR can also help.

By implementing one or more of these tips, Sheila should be able to watch the CW without interruption.
