Q&A > How Can I Fix the Coaxial Port On My TV?

TV Coax Port

Send us your most pressing cord cutting questions via email so we can answer them in an upcoming issue.

This week's question comes from Bob who says, "I accidentally broke the coaxial connector on my TV trying to overtighten it when I was fiddling with my antenna setup. The TV is fine so I hate to trash it. Is it fixable? Is there a workaround?"

Most modern televisions have the TV tuner component built-in to the main motherboard which makes it difficult to repair and expensive to replace compared to the cost of some new TVs.

But there are some workarounds Bob can try that don't involve delving into the guts of his television or buying a new one.

The cheapest would be an inexpensive 'converter box' that will decode your Over-the-Air antenna signals and feed them directly to your TV via HDMI. A more sophisticated option – that would also leave all of your HDMI ports open AND feed the antenna signal to other devices in your home – would be a network-connected OTA DVR like Tablo.
