Happy Friday cord cutters!
We're still testing out a new shorter version of Cord Cutting This Week that packs what you love about the newsletter in a quick-to-consume format. Let us know what you think!
We'll also be taking next Friday off, but we'll be back in your inboxes on October 8th.
This week we've got a sweet deal for Cord Cutters just in time for Prime Time TV premiere season, a Q&A about bypassing your Smart TV's 'smarts', short cuts, and more!
As always, if you know of someone who might need some insight or help with cutting the cord on cable or satellite, please forward our newsletter, or use the handy share buttons at the top of this email.
OK... now let's get to it!
Q&A > Can I Bypass My Smart TV's Smarts?
This week's question comes from Adam who asks, "Is there a way to totally bypass the 'smarts' of my Amazon Smart TV? It was a good deal, but my wife prefers our Roku's interface and sometimes she has trouble switching inputs."
If you have a Smart TV and love the picture quality but hate the user interface, or if the 'smarts' are slowing down, you can easily connect a separate streaming box or stick and use that instead. The streaming stick/box doesn't even have to run the same platform as the Smart TV.
But the downside is accessing the streaming device can be tricky for folks who aren't familiar with the concept of switching inputs on a TV.
Enabling CEC on your TV and streaming device can help, as the protocol should be able to automatically wake up and switch to the correct input when a button on the streaming device's remote is pressed. A good number of TV models, including most Fire TV-enabled television like Adam's, also have a setting to automatically start up on the last used input which in his case would likely be the Roku.
