Happy Friday and happy 2017 Cord Cutters!
This year should be very exciting for everyone interested in cutting cable with tons of great technology and new streaming services slated to launch. In fact, this week is the annual Consumer Electronics Show where the world's biggest gadget manufacturers introduce the newest, coolest gadgets.
This week we'll be highlighting some of the neat stuff coming out of the CES trade show, must-see OTA TV and much more...
Let's get to it!
New Tech from Tablo: Software DVR, Antenna Anywhere Stick & Cloud Storage
It's a new year and here at Tablo HQ we're excited to announce some new technology that will let you watch free Over-the-Air TV in new ways.
At CES we debuted Tablo DROID, a software-based DVR engine for the Nvidia Shield streaming device which works with Tablo TUNER, a 2-Tuner OTA dongle. We also introduced Tablo LIVE, our 'antenna anywhere' stick that makes any OTA antenna 'smart' and showed a proof-of-concept of a CLOUD DVR service.
Get the full scoop from us on the Tablo blog or check out what the media is saying about Tablo on our press page.
Top Headlines from CES
New Nvidia Shield
The show isn't over yet and there's already been so many cool things announced at CES including:
The most powerful streaming media device on the market just got cooler with Nvidia launching a new Shield that supports 4K streaming, HDR and Google Assistant. (Oh, and that Tablo DROID thing we mentioned earlier).
Nvidia also announced that the Shield will be the first Android TV device to get an Amazon Video app, including access to its 4K catalog.
Streaming Smart TVs from Amazon & Roku
The best Smart TVs are those that leverage the guts of popular streaming-set-top boxes. TCL has enjoyed success by partnering with Roku, so much so that they're expanding that partnership and launching a slate of higher-end Roku-powered TVs.
And given that some of the most popular TVs sold on Amazon.com are powered by Roku, the folks at Amazon have now partnered with TV manufacturers including Westinghouse to add Fire TV streaming smarts in new sets. It'll be interesting to see if the Fire TV-powered sets are as popular and user-friendly as their Roku counterparts.
Wallpaper Thin TVs from LG
If you've got $10K burning a hole in your pocket, this ultra thin OLED TV from LG would be a neat way to spend your cash. It's so light, it sticks to the wall with magnets!
And for the Person Who Has Everything...
A Bluetooth-enabled toaster. Because CES.
