Across North America, streaming TV players are likely already gift wrapped and under the tree.

But if you still have some last minute shopping to do, or are planning to gift yourself a new streamer in the New Year, you might be debating whether to buy a Roku, or a Fire TV.

There are pros and cons to both platforms which is why TechHive has looked at some key features and differences to help you make the best choice for your 2020 cord cutting plans. 

 
 

 
Q&A: Will My TV Antenna Work Better On My Roof or In My Attic?

Today's question comes from Suzette who asks, "Is it better for the antenna to be installed outside or in the attic? There are a couple of stations that I can not access with my antenna on my roof."

In general, Over-the-Air TV antennas should be mounted as high as possible and with the best line-of-sight to your local broadcast towers. This is why your best bet for optimal reception is to mount your antenna outdoors on your roof.

Unless you have a radiant heat barrier or a metal roof installed on your home, the attic is a perfectly acceptable location to install an 'outdoor' antenna. However, the layers of roofing material will cause a marginal reduction in your overall signal strength.

So, it's unlikely that moving her antenna from outside to her attic will help Suzette improve reception and get those missing channels.

However, there are other things she can do to attempt to pick up those channels as long as she's within range (~70 miles or 113 kilometers) of the towers broadcasting those stations including:
