NEWS: Over-the-Air Antenna Use Continues to Grow
A new study shows that 20% of US households are using Over-the-Air antennas to watch live, local TV and supplement streaming TV subscriptions. This is up 4% since 2015, and no surprise to savvy cord cutters or folks who work in the OTA TV industry.
OTA TV antennas have been flying off of store shelves as baby boomers rediscover the benefits of watching free TV with an antenna and younger consumers look to keep up with their favorite shows without the expense of cable or data cap overages.
If you've picked up an antenna in the last year, tell us on Twitter or Facebook what model is working best for you and where you have it installed.
NEWS: Cable Price Hikes Larger Than Advertised
We've mentioned this in several past newsletters, but cable companies tend to hide price hikes in mysterious fees rather than in base package prices.
The folks at Consumer Reports recently outlined all of the price hikes from the top US cable and satellite providers, and the reasons given by each company for wanting more of their customer's hard-earned cash.
Most providers cited increasing costs to carry local broadcast networks like ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX for the surge in pricing.
However, all of these channels are available for FREE with an Over-the-Air antenna. So if you're tired of sending more and more cash to your cable company, cut the cord.

CANADIAN CORNER: Rogers & Bell Hike Internet Rates
In Canada, revenues from cable and satellite TV are in a steady decline. In order to offset this and keep shareholders happy, Rogers and Bell are hiking the price of internet. Again.
Despite the cash grab, cutting the cord is still worthwhile. Avoiding the fees and rental costs of set-top-boxes results in significant savings, and cord cutters can save even more by finding an independent internet service provider in their area.
