NEWS: Can DirecTV NOW Make a Comeback?
It's been a rough road lately for DirecTV NOW. A significant price hike and a carriage dispute that axed Viacom channels including Nickelodeon and Discovery, caused customers to abandon the streaming service in droves.
The customer exodus has been so bad that shareholders in DirecTV NOW's parent company AT&T are now suing, claiming the company misled them about the growth potential of the service.
But there is a bit of light on the horizon... Viacom channels will return to the base tier of the service starting today. Paired with the reappearance of its 'free' Apple TV deal, it could make the service somewhat attractive again, especially for cord cutters with young families who need Nick Jr. or those eagerly anticipating the season 8 premiere of Game of Thrones.
Still, it remains to be seen whether Viacom channels and a promo can help DirecTV NOW recover from the customer exodus AND compete against an ever-increasing number of lower-priced options.

Q&A: Why Am I Suddenly Missing An OTA Channel?
Send us your most pressing cord cutting questions via email so we can answer them in an upcoming issue.
Today's question comes from Ron who says, "Until last week I was able to watch my local CW station via my Over-the-Air antenna. The signal was always strong and nothing has changed with my setup, but the station is suddenly gone. Why?"
A few years ago, the FCC conducted an auction of TV broadcast spectrum to free up space for cellular carriers and for other uses. That means some channels need to vacate their current frequencies and move in something called the 'channel repack'.
Ron didn't mention the callsign of his local station, but it's very possible that the repack is why his CW station disappeared overnight when nothing in his antenna setup changed.
If that's the case, the good news is getting this channel back should be as simple as running a new channel scan on the device your antenna is connected to - whether that's a television, OTA DVR, or another tuner gadget.
This should allow your viewing device to identify the channel's new location and start receiving the broadcast once again.
For more information about the channel repack (including the schedule for your local channels), head over to the Tablo blog and check out the most recent article from cord cutting expert Micheal Heiss.
