NEWS: YouTube TV Drops FOX RSNs

Access to Regional Sports Networks (RSNs) is one of the few reasons consumers keep paying for cable TV, or were at least willing to shell out for higher-end streaming TV subscriptions.

However, a new contract dispute between YouTube TV and Sinclair, the owner of FOX RSNs, means sports fans will be shut out of watching their favorite teams on yet another platform. This is despite Sinclair saying it offered concessions, including a short-term contract extension, to YouTube TV.

Sling TV and Fubo TV have already dropped FOX RSNs from their lineups.

But the good news is since there are no contracts with streaming TV services, cord cutters can still ditch YouTube TV for one of two platforms that still carry FOX RSNs, Hulu or AT&T NOW.

Or they can take the cash they would have paid for a beefy streaming TV plan down to the local pub to watch the game and enjoy a few beers.

Q&A: If I'm A Cord Cutter How Do I Log In?

provider login

Send us your most pressing cord cutting questions via email so we can answer them in an upcoming issue.

Today's question comes from Brett who's wondering, "Now that I've cut the cable how do I log in to a network's app? Most of then ask you to choose a TV provider but I don't have one anymore."

Most television networks have something called a 'TV Everywhere App' on mobile and streaming devices, as well as Smart TVs.

These apps are primarily intended for cable and satellite subscribers and provide access to previously aired episodes and additional content. Most require you to provide login credentials to prove you're a pay TV subscriber.

However, cord cutters like Brett might not know that login credentials from your favorite streaming TV providers can also be used for many TV Everywhere Apps. Check out your streaming provider's website for additional details.

Don't have a streaming TV login? Then you may be out of luck unless you 'borrow' one from a friend.

CANADIAN CORNER: MLB.TV To Blackout Jays Games

Blue Jays

Toronto Blue Jays fans across Canada who are also cord cutters got some bad news this week.

For years, the MLB.TV streaming service has been a great and affordable way to enjoy baseball without a cable TV subscription. But MLB.TV has announced that Jays games will be blacked out not just in the GTA but across the country.

Given that the Blue Jays are owned by Rogers which obviously would prefer fans pay $20/month for their own SportsNet Now streaming service, it's not entirely surprising.
