Why did you cut the cord? How much money are you saving each month? The writing on the wall has been there for years: the cable and satellite companies run an inflexible, poorly reliable, and expensive service to provide what should be the opposite of what they provide. It should be of reasonable cost, flexible, and extraordinarily reliable!

Why did you cut the cord? How much money are you saving each month?I’ve been a customer of all of the major cable/satellite providers. Over and over again I was duped by their introductory pricing only to see my bills skyrocket to close to $100 per month for pretty basic TV services. For 5 years prior to cutting the cord, I had annual negotiations with my satellite provider to try to get my monthly costs down again. It became a huge pain to make those calls and still end up with minimal savings. When a friend of mine talked about how his family had moved to an HDTV antenna and cut the cord, I immediately began to plan my escape from pay TV. After installing everything, I'm saving about $65 per month and I still get to watch everything I did before I switched. I should've done this years ago.

The retention department dance with the cable company every 6-12 months was getting really old. Over the last three promotional periods, our rate for internet/cable had risen from $99 to $160/month. I did a little research and just about everything we watched was available Over-the-Air. After cutting the cord we pay just $34.98/month.
Why did you cut the cord? How much money are you saving each month?I was sick of paying for what I didn't need or use. It’s now becoming cool not to pay for bloated cable subscriptions. The internet is making cable obsolete and cable companies know this. My cable bill was $280 per month and now I pay $62 (not including the subscription services, some of which I was paying for already). If you can save an amount that makes a difference in your life and you can meet your home entertainment needs, then why not give it a try?

There was a posting on a friend’s facebook page, that she had done away with her cable TV and replaced it with Roku, due to poor customer support from her cable provider. I too had frustration and angst when dealing with this same provider.
My interest was piqued by this Roku device that she was using to replace cable TV, so my sweetie Paul and I started our cord cutting home project.

We were, like so many others, numb to the high-cost of (popular Canadian provider) Rogers Cable service for many, many years. We were afraid to ‘cut the cord’, thinking that the high cost of cable was the only way to get good programing and HD content. After a truly horrible customer service incident in November 2013 we decided to cancel our Rogers service. We installed a roof mount HD antenna but still hadn’t found a reliable OTA DVR solution. Shortly thereafter Tablo was introduced to the market. Our savings for cutting the cord is $65.83 per month ($790 per year).

I cut the cord due to the ever-increasing costs and horrible customer service with cable. I’m saving around $100 a month now!
What do you get with an HDTV antenna that you couldn’t get another way?
All the channels I get from my antenna are in HD. Even when I was paying over $160 per month for cable I had zero premium channels and zero HD. That cost was for basic cable only which is absurd!
Why did you cut the cord and how much money are you saving each month?
I initially ‘shaved’ the cord 2 years ago for savings.
We were paying nearly $200/month with Comcast so we switched to DirectTV. As always after the initial 6-12 month ‘honeymoon’ period the price would skyrocket again, then we’d switch to Comcast again. We got tired of the endless calling and begging.
Technology made cutting cable more attractive. As of now we pay $61/month for 50Mbps Internet. That’s it.
